The Analyst will support the Financial Crime Operations department with day-to-day first line of defence compliance -related activities and ensuring that tasks are performed in line with internal policies , standards and procedures , in accordance with external applicable laws, rules and regulations.

The key focus of this role will be to monitor and review alerts from AML and screening systems and to take appropriate action on alerts that should be escalated.

Responsibilities of the role

  • To investigate and process alerts from Client Screening and Transaction Monitoring systems effectively and with a high attention to detail
  • Act as a SME to oversee the automated systems, support the head of department to ensure that the systems are operating effectively
  • Assist with the development and implementation of applicable compliance and financial crime procedures to enable the Bank to comply with internal and external regulatory requirements,
  • Proactively stay updated on regulations and regulatory changes as well as industry best practice with focus on Financial Crime Risk.
  • Identification of key regulatory changes and notification to / education of relevant departments and areas to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Develop and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help promote a compliant culture across the bank consistent with the banks strategic objectives, vision, values and Risk Appetite.

Role requirements and necessary experience

  • At least 3 years previous experience working in Financial Crime
  • Thorough knowledge of AML legislation and sanctions and experience in a first line of defence role for a UK bank
  • Understanding of FC typeologies and money laundering
  • Knowledge of and direct experience of using automated AML software and monitoring systems and client screening systems.
  • Ideally a holder of AML / financial crime qualifications
  • Degree level education desirable
  • Trade Finance knowledge would be a plus.
