Contract: 6monts with possibility to extend.
Position Type: Full-Time


Position Summary
The Paralegal supports staff attorneys and the Executive Director in a state government agency by assisting with legal research, document drafting, case preparation, interviews, and administrative tasks. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist attorneys with administrative hearing and trial preparation.
  • Conduct legal research using tools such as Westlaw to identify precedents and support case development.
  • Draft legal documents including affidavits, subpoenas, motions, briefs, deposition notices, decisions on motions, and decisions & orders.
  • Arrange appointments and maintain professional correspondence with parties and representatives.
  • Interview parties and witnesses to gather relevant case information.
  • Handle discovery tasks, including document review and production.
  • Organize and maintain case files for ongoing and closed matters.
  • Manage exhibits for hearings and trials.
  • Perform related legal and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Strong legal writing skills.
  • Knowledge of law and legal terminology.
  • Understanding of legal processes and procedures.
  • Proficiency in business communication.
  • Legal research skills (Westlaw).
  • Investigation and interviewing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Appointment scheduling and organizational skills.
  • Strong time management and task-prioritization abilities.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working as a paralegal in a government agency or law firm.
  • Certification such as Certified Paralegal, Professional Paralegal, or Certified Legal Professional.
Education

Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, pre-law, legal studies, or a related field, and/or Paralegal certification (CP, PP, CLP).

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling approximately five years in a paralegal role.
