Job Summary:
Purdue University is seeking a Building Support Specialist to support the operations of a new student center. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment that serves the academic, student services, and event-related needs of the Purdue community. The specialist will oversee day-to-day building operations, safety compliance, and space oversight, while ensuring high standards of customer service.
The position acts as the main liaison between building occupants and campus service providers such as Facilities Operations, Safety and Security, and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). This individual will coordinate communication, resolve operational issues, and facilitate efficient building collaboration and functionality. The role requires both proactive planning and responsive service to support a positive campus experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily building operations, including safety and space usage
- Coordinate with internal departments for facility needs and issue resolution
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EH&S, and emergency preparedness standards
- Serve as point of contact for building-related services and vendor coordination
- Support event logistics, facility scheduling, and customer service needs
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (Education verification required)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in building operations, facilities coordination, or customer service
- Basic knowledge of OSHA standards and building safety compliance
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP, FM systems)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience in a university or large institutional setting
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to building needs
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
