Job Title: Accountant - Region 5
Location/Onsite: Columbus, Ohio 43231
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40 Hours

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as lead worker under the direction of the Single-Family Accounting Manager, overseeing lower-level bond accountants and entry-level staff.
  • Monitors, reviews, and trains staff to improve work quality and ensure accuracy.
  • Analyzes subsidiary ledgers and develops accounting systems, loan and grant systems, and policies/procedures, including internal controls, segregation of duties, procedures manuals, and agreements with outside loan servicers or trustee banks.
  • Independently reviews highly complex information, such as schedules and reports for single-family mortgage revenue bond programs, ensuring compliance with GAAP and governmental regulations.
  • Analyzes and reconciles mortgage loan and bond documentation to create detailed reporting schedules of cash, investments, expenses, income, loans, bonds, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Determines corrective actions for discrepancies identified by lower-level accountants.
  • Calculates accrued interest, prepaid mortgage pool amortization, accretion, and loan discounts/premiums.
  • Develops and maintains automated accounting systems and prepares computer reports/statements of mortgage data (e.g., mortgage-backed securities, account balances, purchases, payments).
  • Prepares invoices for bond program expenditures (e.g., trustee, liquidity, and remarketing fees) and calculates interest rate swap payments and receipts.
  • Prepares special accounting reports, including financial schedules and tables for Trust Indenture and Official Statement related to bond issuance or refunding.
  • Establishes procedures for reconciling balance sheet and income statement accounts and researching discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoots highly complex bond program problems and researches bond transcripts to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares accounting footnotes for annual audited financial statements and reports for OHFA, external auditors, and governmental authorities.
  • Meets with or calls bank trustees, loan master servicers, or other external partners to clarify and resolve complex and sensitive discrepancies.
  • Responds to public inquiries, including bondholder questions, and assists lower-level bond accountants in program review.
  • Attends or oversees in-service training and staff meetings.

Required Skills:

  • Accounting degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • 2+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in bond accounting, public finance, or mortgage programs.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
